Fiona Gettings secured a superb silver medal on Monday in the cross-country event at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Toruń, Poland.

Another strong run by Fiona saw her cover the eight-kilometre distance at Rudelka Park in 30:51 crossing the finish line just 18 seconds behind the F40 gold medal winner April Lund (USA). There was further success as Fiona; along with her Irish teammates of Michelle Kenny, Michelle Cox and Aoife Parrella; combined to win team gold in the F40 category. Congratulations to Fiona and team Ireland on an excellent achievement.

It is another great accomplishment for the former Longford footballer following National Masters titles won at cross-country and at indoor championships already in 2023.

The cross-country event is held in conjunction with the World Masters Indoor Athletics Championships taking place in Toruń this week with a large travelling group of 144 athletes from Ireland competing in different events.
