Weekly Notes – 27th Sept 2021

Results: A busy weekend of events with a highlight of two silver medals achieved by Longford athletes at the Community Games National finals in Carlow. Emma Brennan in the Under 14 800m and Funmi Talabi in the Under 16 100m each secured a podium spot, and both were unlucky not to win gold for their brilliant efforts with extremely close finishes. El’Nathan Okah placed fourth in the Under 10 200m.

Michael O’Hara was third in the Breffni Challenge Half Marathon with Enda Coffey and Seamus Murtagh not far behind whilst Little Athletics coach Edel Brady ran well in the 10k. Edel Mooney finished seventh in the womens race at the Mullingar Half Marathon in 1:30. Gary Brady and John Farrell put in good runs too. Little Athletics coach Maureen Fallon also completed the distance for the Virtual Longford Half Marathon on the roads of Longford. John Scott ran strongly at the Tralee Marathon in 3:29 and even had to complete an extra mile due to a marshalling error. Ciarán Madden finished an excellent third place at the Triathlon Ireland Olympic Distance race in Westport which included a 10km run in 35:33. Evan Radavicius covered some 46km at the Eco Trail Race in the Wicklow Mountains.

The Be Active Night
The Be Active Night 5km glow run and walk was held on Saturday in association with Longford Sports Partnership. An enjoyable event with participants of all ages looking great in different fluorescent attire to illuminate the Canal loop of a mild late-September evening. Several club members took part with plenty of good runs particularly from Daniel Higgins as first boy and Ciara Crossan as first girl. Colin Beades and Little Athletics coach Sharon Foley were the club’s first senior man and woman home.
