Results Round-up
Rian McCaffrey took to the start line on Sunday for the 7km Marathon at the National Community Games May finals in Meath. Following an earlier midweek 5k personal best of 17:34 in Mullingar, he produced another strong run when placing fifth in the longest distance he’s raced over. It was a great experience for Rian, one of the youngest entrants, with him eligible for the event again next year.
In the US, Yemi Talabi ran a wind-assisted 11.40 seconds for the 100m at the NCAA West Regional finals in Arkansas on Thursday. A final race of a long and successful Collegiate season for Yemi who has just finished her third year at University of Texas Arlington.
Closer to home, Molly Murphy placed well in the 1km walk at Track and Field Live in Athenry last week setting a new personal best.
On the roads, Fiona Gettings and Enda Farrell both recorded quick times at the Enfield 5k last week which is among the most competitive races in the country.
Ross Gannon took in a trip to Paris at the weekend and was among the 30,000 participants at the Adidas 10k in the city on Sunday morning and he completed the distance strongly.
Barry Hall and John Farrell competed well at the Lough Cutra Triathlon event in Galway on Saturday.
All-Ireland Schools
Best of luck to all Co. Longford athletes competing at the All-Ireland Schools Track and Field in Tullamore this weekend. Local athletes will appear in a range of disciplines including steeplechase, high Jump, sprints and middle-distance.
