Seville Marathon: Six of our members swapped the miserable Irish weather for blue Spanish skies last weekend to run in the Seville Marathon. After a winter of training in dark evenings it certainly made for a pleasant change although the rising temperatures did make the latter miles that bit tougher. Well done to all with great times ran on the day. Barry Sheil finishing in 2:28, Paddy Sharkey 2:30, Donal Mulligan 2:34, Kevin Ward 2:51, Colin Beades 3:00 and Claire Wynne in 4:23. Thanks to Michelle who was a great vocal support out on the course for the group.

Connacht Indoor Championships: Longford Athletics Club made their presence known at the two day Provincial Indoor Championships with 40 members competing from U12 through seniors. The athletes medalled in 16 events with ten of these in the sprint category of 60m, 200m, hurdles and relay. We’ll have full details on the club website.

Club News: Juvenile and Little Athletics resumes on Friday February 28th at 7pm in the Mall. Senior training is on Tuesday evenings beginning at 7pm at the Mall. Full details of the weekly senior training group schedule are on our website. Well done to Cian McPhillips who followed up his recent Millrose Games win with victory at the NIA Live men’s mile in Abbotstown last week in 4:13. Best of luck to Yemi, Nelvin and Cian competing this weekend at the National Senior Indoor championships. Our new club gear is available to purchase on the Masita online shop.
