National Juvenile Indoor Championships
Well done to all our club members who performed so well at the National Juvenile Indoor Championships in Athlone last weekend. John Fitzpatrick enjoyed double success winning both the Under-12 High Jump, with a best leap of 1.38m, and also the Shot Put. All-Ireland medals are not easily won so two golds in the one afternoon was a fantastic achievement.

Sinéad Masterson did brilliantly to win a bronze medal in the U13 High Jump with an excellent 1.30m jump for a joint third-place finish.

Oisín Dillon also secured bronze with a well-paced run in the U13 600m where a strong final lap saw him win his heat in 1:42 for the third-fastest time overall.

Izzy Masterson and Funmi Talabi both reached the final of the 60m in their respective age groups and recorded top-six finishes. Robin Óg Murphy placed a very good fifth in the U15 1000m Walk. Ella Duignan, Leah Waters and Rian McCaffrey performed very well at the High Jump in their categories.

Congratulations to our medallists John, Sinéad and Oisín and to all our athletes on a very successful weekend. Following the relays on April 2, we can then look forward to returning to indoor competition in future when our club members will have had the benefit of training in our soon to open, fully-equipped, indoor athletics centre.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Many thanks to all our young members, their parents and our club coaches for their involvement in our participation at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The weather didn’t dampen our spirits, our club mascot put on a great show while Ronan and Ashlee sprinted to victory in the relay! We were delighted to be awarded the trophy for Best Overall Entry. Thanks to the Longford Chamber of Commerce for a very well organised and enjoyable event.

Mullingar Road Races
It was a bright and breezy St. Patrick’s Day morning at the Mullingar Half Marathon and 5k with club members among the large entry. Barry Sheil placed fourth in the Half with John Scott, Michael O’Hara, Anne Brady and Seán Crossan also running good times. The 5k was a new addition this year and included Sandra Donaldson and Marian Dennigan who both ran well.

Friday Athletics
Athletics at the Mall resumes on Friday March 25 for the 6.30 and 7.30 groups. This will be the final evening for the 7.30 group as all groups all will assemble at 6.30 for athletics from April 1.
