Seville Marathon

A massive personal best run by Adrianna Mulligan at the Seville Marathon on Sunday. Clocking a time of 2:46.52 with a brilliantly paced effort, she placed well inside the top-70 female finishers at one of Europe’s most competitive marathons.

Adrianna’s superb time equates to a 3:57 / km average pace for the 42.2k distance.

Club senior coach Donal Mulligan made his return to the streets of Seville and registered another strong marathon showing in 2:52.

Unfortunately, recent illness hindered Declan Newman’s race but we’ll hopefully see him on a start line again soon.

Tony McGowan Run

Closer to home, the sun was also out for the Tony McGowan Run in Drumshanbo. There were many good performances with John Scott and Patrick Prusak among the first finishers in the half marathon clocking 1:20 and 1:24. Anne Brady crossed the line in 1:36 to take the honours in her age category. Dermot Washington, Zoran Salopek, Seamus Murtagh and Colm Dooner each covered the 21.1k strongly as well.

Charlie Barone paced it nicely in the 10k with Carmel Corr, Eleanor McLoughlin and Marian Dennigan all stepping up to complete the distance in good times. Marissa Hebron and Ann O’Brien cruised along over the 5k finishing closely together.

National Senior Indoors

At the National Indoors in Abbotstown, 15-year-old Robin Óg Murphy placed an excellent seventh in the women’s 3k Walk on Sunday. A huge personal best performance for Robin Óg who was one of the youngest athletes in action at the Championship over the weekend.

On Saturday, sprinter Aaron Kelly clocked a good time in his 200m heat with a strong finish but was unable to advance to the final.

Cian McPhillips put in a commanding display to take gold in the men’s 800m crossing the line in 1:52.79. It was a maiden senior title for Cian, running in the UCD colours, who can look forward to the outdoor season with confidence.

Cian’s win is the first time a Longford person has won a National senior indoor title. It is also the first senior track gold medal won by someone from the county since Enda Fitzpatrick’s 1993 success in the steeplechase.

Connacht Indoors

Best of luck to the 50 athletes representing the club at the Connacht Championships in Athlone this weekend.
