Weekly Notes – 13th Sept 2021

Results: Well done to all club members that competed at the Community Games Regional finals in Leixlip on Saturday. Many excellent performances were recorded with several Longford athletes qualifying for the National finals later this month. Caitlin Maher put in another good run over 1500m when representing Scoil Mhuire at the Tailteann Games in Santry. Ciarán Madden secured a fine victory at the Hazelwood Triathlon in Sligo on Sunday over the Olympic distance closing it out with a strong run over 10km in 36:55. John Scott set a good time of 1:32 at the Medic Half Marathon in Monasterevin.

Primary Schools Cross Country: The County Longford Primary Schools Cross Country takes place at Moyne CS on Sunday, 10 October. The first race starts at 4pm. Races are for children in third class and older. Full details on the Longford AC Facebook page.

Be Active Night 5k: On Saturday evening, 25 September, a 5km run/walk will take place in Longford in association with Longford Sports Partnership. The ‘Be Active Night – Ready, Set, Glow’ event starts and finishes at Longford Slashers GAA taking in a lap of the canal loop. The run will be chip-timed and starts at 7.30pm with the walk starting at 7.45pm. Entry is free and registration is to be completed in advance of the evening. Participants are encouraged to glow from head-to-toe wearing neon clothing! Details on the Longford Sports Partnership and Longford AC Facebook pages.

Sympathy: The club extends its deepest sympathies to club Chairperson Donal Mulligan and his family on the sad passing of Donal’s father Dan, Aughnacliffe. May he Rest in Peace.
