Longford 5k Trail Series
The Longford Trail Run series takes place in August, in conjunction with Longford Sports Partnership and Longford Tourism. Beginning 3 August at 7.30pm, these timed 5km events will be at a different location on four Wednesday evenings in the month. The Royal Canal loop in Longford town provides the opening setting followed by Corlea Bog, Derrycassin Woods and Newcastle Woods. Registration is open at the MyRunResults website.

Results
A number of club members took on the Breffni Challenge in Arva on Saturday. Colin Beades ran strongly to take the win in the half marathon in 1:22 with John Scott a close second. Fiona Gettings was first woman home in the 10k with another sub-40 mins clocking. Anne Brady was the club’s other podium finisher with a third place in the half. Fiona had the previous weekend ran well for fourth place at the Mullingar 10 mile. In the men’s race, Paddy Sharkey was sixth in 55:55 while Michael O’Hara and Charlie Barone also recorded good times.

Well done to the many children from County Longford that performed so well at the Community Games Regional finals in Clones on Saturday. Quite a number of Longford athletes qualified for the National finals to be held in Carlow on 13 August. Highlights included gold medals won by Izzy Masterson, Sophia Carey, Emma Brennan, El’Nathan Okoh and Joe Rooney. Congratulations to all qualifiers.

Couch to 5k
A beginners 8-week Couch to 5k programme starts on Tuesday 9 August at the Mall from 7.30pm. Held in association with Longford Sports Partnership, a weekly programme will be provided for participants along with support and advice to help build fitness in a fun way.
