Weekly News – 17th February 2020

Road Race: The annual Longford 5km/10km road race will take place on Sunday March 1st at 11am. The course remains the same taking in the lap(s) of the bypass finishing at the Mall. Registration available that morning in the Scouts Den building. Online pre-entry at a reduced rate is now open on Pop Up Races. A 2km Primary Schools fun run in the Mall will start at 10am with a prize for the school with the most participants. Medals for all finishers in each distance. Training: Due to the mid-term break, there will be no training for Juvenile and Little Athletics on February 21st. Senior training is on Tuesday evenings beginning at 7pm at the Mall. Full details of the weekly senior training group schedule are on our website.

Club News: Well done to Yemi Talabi on her second place in the women’s long jump at the Athlone Grand Prix indoor event on Wednesday last with a best effort of 5.67m. Best of luck to our 35 juvenile athletes competing this weekend at the Connacht Indoors in Athlone. Good luck and safe travels also to our 6 senior members running in the Seville Marathon on Sunday. Fundraiser: The draw for the fundraiser raffle for our proposed indoor athletics facility will take place on March 6th at 9pm in the Longford Arms Hotel. Tickets are still available from club members and can be purchased on our website www.longfordac.com. Be in for a chance to win the €20,000 first prize! Club members are asked to please return any outstanding sold tickets to a committee member. Many thanks to all who gave up their time to sell tickets over the past two weekends. The facility will be located beside St. Mel’s College and we will announce further details regarding this in the coming weeks.
