National Senior T+F: Best of luck to Yemi Talabi, Cian McPhillips, Nelvin Appiah and Aaron Kelly competing at the National Senior Track & Field Championships in Santry over the next two weekends. All four young athletes have been patiently training away over recent months and hopefully their dedication will pay off with good performances. They will each be ‘doubling up’ in their chosen events. Yemi is in the 100m and long jump, Cian in the 800m and 1500m, Nelvin in the 110m hurdles and high jump and Aaron in the 100m and 200m.
Connacht Games: Athlone IT hosted the Summer Games on Sunday providing some much-needed competition for Connacht athletes. Sian Gallagher finished 3rd in the U15 800m with 2:35 whilst her brother Jack was 3rd in the U17 800m in 2:14. Nelvin Appiah completed his preparations ahead of the Nationals finishing second in the men’s 100m in 11.14. Well done to all. Prior to this event, Nelvin recorded two first place finishes at the City of Lisburn AC meet in Belfast on Thursday last. He jumped 1.95m in the high jump and ran a time of 14.53 in the 110m hurdles. The previous weekend saw him jump 2.00m for second place at the Jumps & Throws event in Santry.
