Weekly News – 13th January 2020

Club Awards: Our annual club awards will take place this Sunday January 19th at 4.30pm in the Longford Arms Hotel. The achievements of our juvenile and senior athletes in 2019 will be recognised as well as some other special presentations being made. We welcome all our club members and their parents to join us for this event. Refreshments will be served.

Training: The first session of 2020 for the Juvenile and Little Athletics groups will be on Friday January 17th at 7pm in the Mall. Training for our juveniles is held outside on the astro pitch with Little Athletics taking place in the sports hall. As the Connacht Indoor Track and Field Championships are fast approaching on February 22nd / 23rd, it is important that all competing juvenile members (born in or before 2009) attend training on Friday. Details of the upcoming training sessions at the indoor track in Athlone IT will be given at Friday’s training in the Mall.

Couch to 5k: Begin the new year with the Longford AC ‘Couch to 5k’ six-week initiative. Walkers, joggers and runners are all welcome. An information briefing will take place in the Longford Arms Hotel on January 19th at 4pm. The programme will be based out of two separate locations – Longford town (The Mall) and North Longford (Moyne Community School). Sessions at the Mall start on Monday January 20th at 7.30pm. The first session in Moyne will also be on January 20th starting at 9.30am. Registration will be available at the Longford Arms Hotel on January 19th or at either of the first sessions. Full details can be found on our website and Facebook page. Our club coach will conduct the sessions providing support and advice to help all participants in the lead up to the Longford 5k on March 1st.

Senior Members: The Tuesday evening coached sessions have re-commenced after the break and consist of 10 minutes warm up followed by a 30-40 minutes intervals workout finishing with a warm down. The session begins at 7pm at the Mall. This training is adapted to suit all levels of fitness. On Thursdays at 7pm at the Mall, the group run 5-7 miles at a comfortable pace. On Saturday morning, the group meet at the Mall at 8am for a longer run of 10+ miles. New members welcome. Club senior membership for the year remains at €30. Avail of top class coaching, have fun and benefit from training in a group environment.
