It was a super weekend of competition for Yemi Talabi at the Western Conference Championships held at her university track in Arlington, Texas. Yemi won a medal in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump and set a new personal best in each.
A longest effort of 6.17m saw Yemi win a silver medal with a jump that moves her into the Irish top 10 all-time list for the event. She then won a second silver medal after a lightning quick 11.36 seconds run in the 100m and then claimed bronze in the 200m clocking 23.56 seconds for another personal best.
Yemi’s 100m time is the fifth fastest ever by an Irish woman for the distance showing that she is in great form.
Last week saw Nelvin Appiah place in the top five for the Decathlon at the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Virginia. The ten-event competition saw him achieve a total score of 6597 points as he represented his university team of the Louisiana Cajuns. This included a first-place finish in the 100m (10.91 seconds) and second place in both the High Jump and 110m Hurdles.
