Last weekend’s track action began in Carlow on Saturday with the inter-provincial Tailteann Games. Among those representing Connacht Schools were Emma Brennan (Moyne CS), Rian McCaffrey (St. Mel’s College) and Oisín Dillon (Lanesboro CC).
Emma had another strong outing in the Steeplechase crossing the line in 5:10 to win a silver medal after 1500m of energy-sapping running and hurdling in the warm conditions. The result also ensured that she has achieved selection for next month’s Schools International in England. Emma can look forward to what will be her fourth appearance in the Irish singlet.
The boys also had good showings at the middle distances. Rian kept up his fine form with a personal best run in the 1500m clocking 4:24 while Oisín too claimed a new lifetime best for his efforts with 2:05 in the 800m.
