The cross-country season got underway on Saturday with the first round of the Connacht Senior League taking place in Galway. Fiona Gettings continued her good recent form to take the honours with victory in the women’s 4k race and Fiona can look forward with confidence to a strong XC season.

Another club member producing good results of late has been Ciaran Madden who competed at the Pikeman Triathlon in Wexford on Sunday. Weather conditions ruled out the swim, so Ciaran got in two runs (5k and 10k) for good measure to place well overall. Earlier this month, he secured a podium finish with a strong performance at the Lough Key Triathlon event.

John Scott is another recent good performer having placed third with a time of 1:23 at the Medic Half Marathon in Monasterevin last week. Good luck to John as he joins more than 45,000 people on the start line of the world famous Berlin Marathon next Sunday.

On Saturday, the club’s Masters men’s team of Barry Sheil, Donal Mulligan and Colin Beades were presented with their silver medals won at the National 10 Mile Championships. The trio took second place behind An Riocht AC from Kerry and ahead of Dublin’s Raheny Shamrock AC with 21 teams in the category overall.
