Fiona Gettings made the trip to Belfast on Saturday for the British Milers Club meet at the Mary Peters Track. A quality field assembled for the women’s 3000m with quick times recorded despite the wet conditions. The journey north was worth it for Fiona who produced an excellent run to go under 10 minutes for the first time. A brilliant 9:44 clocking for a seventh-place finish and one of the fastest ever times set by an Irish F40 athlete for the distance.
John Scott and Michael O’Hara separated from the herd and powered through the Thoroughbred Half Marathon in Kildare on Sunday. John enjoyed a top ten finish in 1:21 while Michael ran strongly too for 1:44. Also on Sunday, the club singlet was out in force in Strokestown for the Sliabh Bán 10k. There were podium placings for Ross Gannon and Adrian Wrobel in second and third with both under 37 minutes. Enda Farrell also placed in the top ten as Gavin O’Reilly, Anne Brady, Tara Gately, Seamus Murtagh, Teresa Blake, Anne Newman, Carol O’Brien and Jacqueline Mahon all competed well also over the distance.
Week two of the Midlands Aquathon Series took place at Lough Key Forest Park on Wednesday last. Sinéad Nolan delivered another strong performance, teaming up with her daughter Shauna, to claim first place in the relay. In the longer distance event, Enda Coffey, John Farrell and Seamus Murtagh took in the sprint event while Jacqueline Mahon completed the shorter distance race.
