National Juvenile Track & Championships

The final weekend of the National Juvenile Track & Field Championships took place at the Tullamore Harriers athletics track on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July.  The weather was certainly more pleasant for the distance runners competing on the Sunday.   The Under 12 boy’s 4 X 100 meter relay team had put in an excellent performance in getting the silver medal at the Connaught championships.  There was very high competition in this event at the National and the boys did not manage to qualify for the final from their heat.  However they posted a very good time and they will continue to improve over time. Thomas Mc Gann competed in the under 16 boys 200 meters and ran well posting a time of  24.81 seconds, unfortunately this was not enough to qualify Thomas for the final.  Thomas can look back on a successful season.  Our final competitor was Mary Sloane who was competing in the under 16 girls 1500 meters final and Mary ran a good race where there was some very strong competition and a fast paced race and one of the races of the day, Mary can be well satisfied with her performance and we look forward to seeing Mary competing in the upcoming cross country season. All our Juvenile Athletes did very well to qualify to compete in the All Irelands against top class opposition from every county in Ireland over the past few weekends. They all did a super job in representing their club – well done guys!
