Longford Sports Partnership & Longford Athletic Club 5K Fun Run Outstanding Success

The 5K fun run organized by the Longford Sports Partnership with the Longford Athletic Club was an outstanding success.  This run was held within the confines of the Mall and everyone really enjoyed the event.  Although there are a very significant number of races ongoing in the region currently, over 60 competitors took part, for many of them it was their first time to compete in a 5K run.  Clive Clancy won the race in a time of 16 minutes and 39 seconds and Clive ran a superb race through out.  Second home was Patrick Sharkey and Damian Moran was third.  Imelda Martin continues her good form and won the women’s race in a time of 20 minutes and 50 seconds, second home was Martina O’Hara and third place finisher was Kelly Hynes.  The through spirit of the event was to see so many people compete in the event and finish, there was an overwhelming positive response to this fun run from everyone involved.  Most of the competitors were female and from the locality which was great to see. Everyone attended the very enjoyable post race refreshments at the Computer Clinic.  This event showed the positive effect of sport on people and it was refreshing to see the large number of local competitors, this showed Longford in a positive light.  Such as the success of the event and the really positive feedback from everyone involved, this was initially meant to be a one off event but it is now planned to have another 5K fun run in the next number of weeks.  This event was the culmination of excellent work carried out by the Longford Sports Partnership and the Athletic Club who worked really well together in making this event a success.  Thanks to everyone who helped on the night from the marking of the course, race officials and the team who provided the food, these events can only happen because people give their time.
