Information for all children U9-11 regarding Connacht Outdoor Championships

Saturday 11th June 2016 at Dangan, Co. Galway

U9-11 Children can chose 2 events only and must stay in their own age group:

In the U9-11 age group 2 children work together as a pair\team both entering the same event. Their combined distances or combined times are added together for team scoring. Medals for 1st, 2nd, 3rd pair (NOT individual) in each event and these top 3 pairs in each event at the Connacht Championship qualify for the National Children’s Games on Sat 2nd July 2016.

Each athlete may compete in two events only, with the same or two different partners but you must have a partner to enter.

Athletes can only compete in their own age group (U9 must be born 2008) for the pairs events but they may move up 1 year to be on a relay team.

All 60m, 300m, 500m, 600m races are on times – no semifinals/finals.  Standing or crouch start is optional. No starting blocks.

Parents must email their child’s name, date of birth and events they are choosing to          

CLOSING Date for all U9-11 entries to be emailed into the Club is May 30th.


Connacht Outdoor Track & Field Championships 2016

Info for all athletes ages 12-19 years

U12 athletes compete on Saturday June 11th (same day as U9-11 pairs), Dangan, Galway

U13-19 athletes compete on Saturday June 18th at Sligo IT

Athletes are confined to their own age group for all individual & field events. You may move up 1 age group to run on a relay team.

Athletes ages U12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 can only enter 3 events plus a relay team (athletes ages U17, 18 and 19 can enter 4 events plus a relay team).

U12s all must do a crouched start. Athletes from U14 upwards must use Starting Blocks. Blocks are optional for U12 and U13s.

U13, 14, 15 – One false start and all are on warning of next false start leading to disqualification.

U16 upwards First false start leads to disqualification.

ALL FIELD EVENT ATHLETES MUST BE TECHNICALLY PROFICIENT AND COMPETENT IN THE EVENT IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY. In all field events (except the High Jump and Pole Vault) each athlete will get 3 attempts.

The first 4 winners in each event from Connacht qualify for the National Championships, except in the 600\800m it is only the first 3 that go through.

Athletes MUST wear the Longford AC Singlet in competition, white shorts and white socks.

Only 5mm spikes may be used.

Coaches and parents are not allowed on the track at any time. Any parent or club official found on the track risk the possibility of their athlete and club being disqualified.

Sat 2nd July        National “B” Championships AND U12-18 Relays

Sun 10th July      Day 1- Hurdles, 600m, 800m and some field events

Sun 24th July      Day 3- 200m, 1500m and some field events
