Important: Return to Juvenile Training

The committee of Longford Athletics Club has decided to resume weekly training for our Juvenile Athletics members (born in or before 2010) on Friday, 11th September at 7pm. This will take place on the astro pitch at the Mall.

Juvenile Athletics training sessions will be structured in accordance with current Athletics Ireland guidelines. Each member will be allocated into a group of a maximum 15 juveniles of similar age. Each group, or ‘pod’, will have a set coach and will each do 2 different activities every week. For example, one week the pod will do sprints and jumps and the following week could be middle distance and throwing events. This will ensure each session is both fun and varied and also is conducted in a safe manner.

With this in mind, we are looking for each child’s parent/guardian to assist the coach at one session per month. This could be with the supervision of the pod as well as helping to ensure the smooth running of the session.

We are looking to establish if your child is interested in returning to the weekly Friday evening training session. This will assist us in allocating the groups in advance.

Please email pro.longfordac@gmail.com by 1st September stating if your child would like to return to Juvenile Athletics training.

Regrettably, Little Athletics (for children born in or after 2011) will not be returning in September. Due to the restrictions laid down by the Athletics Ireland Covid-19 guidelines, we would not be able to ensure the coaching of the fundamentals of athletics in a fun and safe environment. We will review this decision again in January.

Following the long break, our coaches are really looking forward to returning to Friday evening training and seeing our juveniles back out enjoying their athletics and having fun.

All at Longford AC wish you and your family well.
