Another brilliant performance and another National title for Fiona Gettings.
Having won gold over 3000m indoors last weekend, Fiona followed it up with another gold medal winning run this time over cross country at the National Masters Championships in Gowran, Co. Kilkenny on Sunday.
The recent dry spell led to fast running over the 4000m distance on the mainly firm ground as Fiona positioned well among the lead group early on. She showed her strength to continue at a strong pace to finish second place overall of the 141 finishers and first in her age category to clinch gold.
Congratulations to Fiona who is consistently racing at a very high standard on the roads/track/country. Medals won at the National Masters XC are certainly not achieved easily and Fiona’s gold is a first for a Longford AC member at this very competitive event.
