Cian McPhillips lined up for the 800 metres semi-final at the European Indoor Championships on Saturday evening last following a dramatic heat on Friday in which he fell before being later reinstated into a qualifying position.

He imposed himself strongly in the race and was well positioned at halfway. In the third lap, other athletes began to make their move and Cian was unable to respond going on to cross the finish line in seventh place. A somewhat disappointing outcome for him, but this indoor season has seen him return to his best.

This good form may see Cian picked for the upcoming World Indoor Athletics Championships in China later this month with selection still to be confirmed at the time of writing.
