The Connacht Schools Track and Field Championships on Friday had possibly its largest ever representation from Co. Longford with almost 40 athletes from six Secondary Schools in the county taking part.

Longford AC juveniles were to the fore in Athlone with six members achieving qualification for the All-Irelands. Among them were first place finishers Rachel Keenan (Mercy Ballymahon – Inter Girls 1500m), Oisín Dillon (Lanesboro CC – Minor Boys 800m), Max Gallagher (Mercy Ballymahon – Junior Boys 800m) and Funmi Talabi (AS Phadraig Granard – Senior Girls 100m).

Qualifying as runners-up were Moyne CS pupils Emma Brennan (Junior Girls 1500m) and Mia Kiernan (Junior Girls 75m Hurdles).
Congratulations to all who can now look forward to the All-Ireland Schools finals in Tullamore on 3 June – one of the best events in the Irish Athletics calendar.

Other club members in action and performing very well were Sean Grealy taking 0.5 seconds off his 200m personal best, Robin Og Murphy, Killian Jones, Liam Galligan, Sinead Fitzsimons and Kelly Davis. Well done to all.
