It was a super Saturday for our young athletes at the Connacht Indoors with medals aplenty, Championship Best Performances, lots of PBs and fun had.

El’Nathan Okoh had an outstanding competition winning three individual golds in the U13 60m, High Jump and Long Jump. An excellent 4.53m jump secured gold in the latter.

Andrew Fitzpatrick claimed a great double gold with victories in the U12 Shot Put and High Jump with Championship Bests recorded in both. His 1.43m jump in the latter added 10cm to the previous record. He also claimed a further Nationals qualifier when placing fourth in the 60m.

John Fitzpatrick had another excellent day as he leaped to gold in the U14 High Jump with 1.55m, claimed silver in the 60m Hurdles and took bronze in the Long Jump.

El’Nathan and Andrew teamed up with Adam Mulleady and Paul Aigbogun for U13 4 x 200m relay success in which the boys combined to clock a blistering 1:54.8.

Leah Waters’ best effort of 4.10m took silver in the U14 Long Jump. Sarah Connolly sprinted her way to bronze in the U14 60m in 8.56 seconds while Emily Oge Nnachi also won bronze with a third-place finish in the U12 Long Jump.

The medal haul ensured Longford AC topped the table at the end of Day 1 of the two-day event in Athlone. Congratulations to all medal winners.

A busy day of events saw some club members taking part in competition for the first time with lots of excellent performances and new personal bests set.
