The 9th Co. Longford Primary School Relays took place in Newtownforbes on 21 April with a bumper evening of racing action at Allen Park. Thirteen relay races of 4 x 200m took place as well as ten 200m races for children not on a relay team.

A record 19 national schools were represented with school children from 2nd – 6th classes:

Colmcille; St. Patrick’s, Killeen; Stonepark; St. Matthew’s, Ballymahon; Melview; Scoil Samhthann, Ballinalee; Scoil Mhuire, Newtownforbes; St. Guasacht’s, Bunlahy; St. Teresa’s, Killoe; St. Columba’s, Mullinalaghta; St. Mel’s, Ardagh; St. Mary’s, Edgeworthstown; St. Mary’s, Drumlish; St. Mary’s, Newtowncashel; St. Patrick’s, Dromard; Scoil Bhríde, Glen; Scoil Mhuire, Clondra; Tashinny and St. Joseph’s Longford.

Well done to the girls and boys who ran and provided a great evening’s athletics and thanks to the schools and parents for organising entries for registration.
Congratulations to Scoil Mhuire, Newtownforbes on winning the Ray Flynn trophy for the best performing school with St. Mary’s, Edgeworthstown the runners-up and Melview in third place.

Many thanks to the club coaches, committee and teenage juvenile members for helping with the staging of an event that had over 550 participants. Our thanks also to Clonguish GAA for the use of their grounds and to the Civil Defence for their assistance on the evening.
