There was a major return to form by Cian McPhillips last Friday at an indoor track meet in Boston. Clocking a swift 1:45.33 for 800m when finishing in second place at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational ensured Cian was well inside the qualifying standard for next month’s European Indoor Championships.
Although the qualifying period remains open for a few more days, Friday’s time will very likely be good enough to see him earn another Irish singlet. Cian’s time in Boston takes almost a second off his personal best and is only 0.18 seconds behind the National record set by Mark English in New York earlier this month.
