Congratulations to Fiona Gettings on a superb run at the British & Irish Masters Cross Country in Glasgow on Saturday afternoon. In a competitive 6000m race, Fiona placed fourth in her age category and helped ensure Ireland won gold in the team event.

With three to score in the team standings, Ireland secured top spot on the podium with a very impressive performance in claiming three of the first five placings. Setting an excellent score of 10 points, Ireland placed well clear of England on 17 with Scotland in third on 19. Fiona was joined on the Irish F40 line-up by category winner Dymphna Ryan (Tipperary) along with Michelle Kenny (Cork) and Norah Newcombe-Pieterse (Mayo). Tollcross Park in the Scottish city hosted the event under clear blue skies on what was a tough, testing course.

Showing her strength over the hilly parkland terrain, Fiona matched her fourth-place finish in last year’s race while the Irish team swapped places with England on the podium to this time achieve gold. Following an excellent run at last month’s trial race in Dublin, Fiona had secured her place on the Irish team for this Home Nations event which included entries from Northern Ireland, England, Wales and hosts Scotland.

In March, Fiona won a silver medal in the F40 cross-country race at the World Masters Championships in Poland and continues to excel at both national and international competition.
