Connacht Outdoor Championships, Day 1 was held in Claremorris, Co. Mayo on Saturday 6th June. 30 juveniles from Longford AC took part in the U9-12 age groups. A great day was had by all regardless of the rain and wind. 5 Girls Relay teams and 2 Boys relay teams were entered and gave very good performances on the day.
The U12 athletes competed in individual events such as long jump, shot putt and turbo javelin as well as relay teams. Well done to Jack Gallagher, Patrick Crossan, Mark Rowley, Dan Crossan, Aideen Mulligan, Kate Hagan & Sarah McPhillips for competing on the day.
Several children from the Dromard section of the club competed for the 1st time in the Longford AC singlet: Lauren Miney, Emily O’Reilly, Tara Gray, William Mac Entire, Tamara Cosgrove, Aoibh Farrell, Kate Mac Entire, Ronan Corcoran, James Miney & Avril Cosgrove. Clodagh Smith from the Kenagh sub club joined the U11 girls pairs and Donnacha Golden, Katie Duignan, Breyana McCormack and Ella Duggan also made their athletics debut. Speedy recovery to Barry Donnelly & Rachel Mulligan who were not able to travel. Next weekend the U13-19 athletes compete in Day 2 of the Connacht Outdoor Championships in Claremorris.
