Clubs Cross Country
Provincial Club cross-country races will be on:
Sunday, 22 October – Connacht Even Ages (U12/U14/U16/U18), Westport
Sunday, 5 November – Connacht Uneven Ages (U11/U13/U15/U17/U19), Sligo
Below is the breakdown of age categories and the distances ran in each.
The ‘one year up’ entry policy applies meaning a child can run on both days if they are interested. For example, a child in the U12 age category can also run in U13. The U11 category is open to U10’s (children born in 2014). This is the youngest age group permitted in 2023 events.
Juvenile Age Categories / Distances – 2023
The wearing of spikes is recommended, although not essential, for children interested in cross-country races. Spikes can be purchased online with no major difference among the usual brands.
Some shops, such as the Sports Outlet in Mullingar, will likely have them in stock. They should come with 9mm spike pins/studs which is the preferred length for cross country.
Juvenile and Little Athletics – indoors
Weekly indoor athletics at the Athletics Centre resumes at the end of September. Details will be communicated to parents in advance.
Following a review of group sizes based on numbers attending and coaches’ availability, club membership for new members is closed for the remainder of 2023. There is no waitlist in effect.
Children, already registered in 2023, are allocated a place at athletics for when it resumes as club membership is by calendar year.
