The 11th Co. Longford Primary School Relays took place on Friday at St. Mel’s College. It was a super evening of racing in warm conditions under blue skies.
Ten relay races of 4 x 200m were held as well as ten 200m races for children not on a relay team. 17 national schools were represented with children from 2nd – 6th classes:
Ardagh, Ballinalee, Ballymahon, Dromard, Drumlish, Edgeworthstown, Glen, Kenagh, Killasonna, Killeen, Killoe, Melview, Mullinalaghta, Newtownforbes, Stonepark, Tashinny and St. Joseph’s Longford.
Well done to all the girls and boys that took part and thanks to the schools and parents for organising entries. Medal winners are listed below.
Congratulations to Melview NS on winning the Ray Flynn Trophy for the best performing school in the relays. Scoil Mhuire Newtownforbes placed as very close runners-up with St. Teresa’s Killoe in third.
Many thanks to the club coaches, committee, parents and juvenile club members for helping with the staging of an event that had over 550 children from across the county taking part. Our thanks to St. Mel’s College for the use of their grounds.
